About Us

The Hebrew Order of David is a Jewish men’s fraternity that is over 125 years old. Initially created in 1896, HOD was firmly set in place in 1904 when it was established in South Africa. It is international and active in five countries presently (Israel, South Africa, England, Canada, and the United States). We are the Dallas chapter of the Hebrew Order of David identified as Lodge Shimon Peres.

Our HOD aims and objectives are:

  • To provide meaningful community service in our geographic area (see our CURRENT & PAST EVENTS for more details)
  • To promote goodwill amongst all mankind
  • To foster brotherhood among the members of the Order
  • To support local institutions (both Jewish and non-Jewish) by giving of our time and service
  • To support brethren in times of their difficulties
  • To promote the ideals and work of HOD International
  • To strengthen bonds between Jews in the diaspora and Israel
  • To provide an effective network resource for Jewish men, without regard to age, economic status, profession, synagogue affiliation or no affiliation

Our Dallas Lodge was started in 2014 and was awarded the Outstanding Lodge in the World for 2018 to 2020. Some examples of HOD’s impact are:

  • Supporting efforts to combat antisemitism (with a well-attended event honoring Patricia Heaton and her October 7th Coalition that encourages Christians to join Jews in the fight against antisemitism)
  • Supporting other organizations that combat antisemitism (like Generation Zion, a Christian organization that goes to college campuses to educate students about antisemitism)
  • Providing volunteers for the annual cleanup of the Jewish Family Service food warehouse and pantry
  • Donating a full truckload of brand-new toys to Jewish Family Services
  • Donating a full truck of stuffed animals to Family Gateway for the families with children who are homeless
  • Participating with other HOD lodges worldwide to raise $360,000 for the Birthright Israel campaign (2 full buses of 40 young people each)
  • Raising $220,000 with other HOD lodges worldwide for United Hatzalah (the emergency medical volunteer response organization in Israel) following the October 7th, 2023 attack
  • Raising $72,000 for two ambucycles (fully equipped scooter ambulances) for United Hatzalah with a local well-attended special event
  • Our HOD wives formed a knitting group to make scarves, blankets, new born baby hats for the underprivileged and hundreds of beanies for Israeli soldiers to wear under helmets during the winter months following October 7th, using donated wool
  • Providing packages and donating hundreds of meals monthly for delivery to patients with major health issues, including for patient’s relatives and their caretakers
  • Organizing a poker club, a book club, an annual BBQ and pool event, participating in the Dallas kosher chili cookoff, providing a dram club, and arranging speakers for social get-togethers of our members and their invited guests
  • Donating furniture to a shelter for battered women
  • Providing laptops for non-profits with limited budgets
  • Delivering a monthly truckload of donated items to various organizations in dfw environs that provide for the homeless or those in need
  • And much more, both as an organization and by individual members of our Lodge
