On October 22, 2023 HOD Lodge Shimson hosted a Kosher BBQ cook-off competition.  This event was special in so many ways.  First was the show of solidarity of the Brethren and Atlanta community to show up at this event in spite of antisemitism.  Second this event honored a local first responder hero in the area as grand martial for the event.  Last, the monies raised from this event were being donated to United Hatzalah.

Brother Don Swartz and his spouse Lynda attended this event and represented HOD Lodge Shimon Peres.  Don joined the Son's of BBQ team which tented right next to Bezalel.  Don worked with the team and prepared rub for the ribs and BBQ sauce.  Cooking started at 930PM on the 21st and concluded at 1030AM on the 22nd.  The team worked hard to plate for judges and then serve the guests samples of the labors.  These samples included Chili, Chicken, Ribs and Brisket.   Lynda worked with Stan Schnitzer of Shimshon lodge to facilitate the silent auction.

In the end, Team SOB (Son's of BBq get your heads out of the gutter gents) placed 3rd in Ribs.
